Microsoft Office Live Workspace is Public

After 3-4 months of private beta testing,"Microsoft Office Live Workspace" beta has finally been made public.This project took shape as part of the Microsoft's 'Software plus Services' strategy, is an answer to the Google docs and Zoho office suites.Start using it if you a Windows Live Id or sign up for one here

To get started with the primary purpose of office live workspace, you can save over 1000 average sized office documents [like word,ppts,PDF,images,texts etc.,] online and share with others in a controlled manner.You can create notes,lists internally.This comes with an internal viewer that lets you view the popular documents in a web page format. Files of types that cannot be viewed internally,have to be saved to the computer and viewed with the supported application.For example a .zip file.Microsoft Office prevents certain file types from uploading for security purposes.For example a .exe file.For a complete list of blocked file types refer Blocked File Types.

Recycle Bin Microsoft Office Live Workspace comes with the Windows popular Recycle Bin, to restore the deleted documents.

Office live Workspace lets you create several Workspaces serving your your office,home,project etc., purposes to organize your documents.These workspaces also comes with some standard template files you can customize for your purposes.

Microsoft live Workspace comes with an online storage of 500MB and a cap of 25MB on individual document.

Document Versioning Microsoft office Live Workspace automatically save a version of the Microsoft office document if more than 12 hours of time elapsed since your last edit or if some other people changes the document since you last revised it.Only a document owner can delete or restore a save a version.

GMail is Public?

Heard Gmail is open for public registration,means now no invitation is needed to get a gmail account.In my India browser I do not see any link allowing me to signup for a GMail account.In the USA browser I see the link "Sign up for Gmail",but still its being redirected to the Mobile based sign up.I guess it should have been removed for some reason or other...

Get Faster GMail

This week Google has released a downloadable Java application for a faster GMail access.Means with the latest version we can access the mails with fewer key strokes,which is very important while accessing web on a mobile.Right now the application is open for US/Canada mobile users only.Yesterday when I opened the Google Home page on my mobile,it prompted me to download the Faster GMail application.The GMail version 1.0.0 was around 112KB for my Nokia 6020 mobile.I accepted to download it to my mobile,but the download was not successful even though it retried several times.I think it may take few more days for Non US and Canada users to use this application.I went through the demo of the application , I feel it is OK.It comes with Search feature too.Overall if they can reduce the size of the application it will be even better.

Google expanded its Google News service with a provision to search the past.As part of it has indexed 200 years of history from various resources like Gaurdian,NY Times,Washington Post,Time.....The Hindu,Deccan Herald etc.,Its a great source of information for those who would like to dig the past to know about their place,people,incidents etc, which otherwise want us to go to some big libraries.Most of the news happened during the last 15-20 years is availbale for free.But gaining access to (some of the ) pre 1990 news , needs to subscribe to the mother site.Information indexed from some of the portals like Time and UK's Guardian newspaper allows to access most of the information for free.Overall its great service from the Google stable.

Blogger Beta

Today When I was trying to log in to Blogger.com ,I noticed two new things.
First
It allowed me to sign in with either the Blogger ID or my Google account.I have been waiting for this change for quite long time , as it will difficult to maitain to many accounts.I tried to sign in with my GoogleAccount.I got inside and I was asked if I could merge my Blogger account with my Google Account.
Second the Blogger Beta.The Beta version is promising a lot of new things such as ,Categorizing the Posts with labels,Controlling the appearance of the blog with mouse,etc.,To try all these ,existing Blogger users have to wait few more days...But it doesnt allow me to migrate and said "Could not Switch you to the new Blogger".It seems they are allowing limited number of (existing) users to try the Beta version at this time.

Google lands on Mars

After Earth and Moon, Google now focused on the red planet.This week Google launched the maps of Mars taken by the NASA's orbiting Odyssey and Mars Global Surveyor.I think this development is as part of the alliance between NASA and Google that took place few months back.
As of now it shows locs of some mountains,Craters,Space Crafts etc., in three different 2D formats.To get a real feel of exploring Mars we need to wait for the release of 3D version from the search engine giant.

Goolge had its web Avatar with Web Search service in which it became the market leader in a very short span.The service became so famous that the term google became a verb in internet lingo.With the success , it entered into other services beyond web search and rolled out many products like Gmail ,G news,Alerts,Froogle Shopping Engine ,Picaso photo sharing software,Hello ,Google Earth,Desktop search software,Adsense Adwords -a revolutionary way of advertising on web and so on and so on that made Giants Yahoo, MSN to work seriously.

One field where Google was lagging was the Instant messaging segment.I was eagarly waiting for Goolge entry in the Instant Messaging segment.I was very happy when I saw the link to download the Google Instant messaging software in the google website yesterday.It named it Google Talk.I just downloaded it and yet to work on it.
