Get Faster GMail

This week Google has released a downloadable Java application for a faster GMail access.Means with the latest version we can access the mails with fewer key strokes, which is very important while accessing web on a mobile.Right now the application is open for US/Canada mobile users only.Yesterday when I opened the Google Home page on my mobile,it prompted me to download the Faster GMail application. The GMail version 1.0.0 was around 112KB for my Nokia 6020 mobile.I accepted to download it to my mobile, but the download was not successful even though it retried several times.I think it may take few more days for Non US and Canada users to use this application.I went through the demo of the application , I feel it is OK.It comes with Search feature too.Overall if they can reduce the size of the application it will be even better.

International Mobile Equipment Identity

The International Mobile Equipment Identity (or IMEI)
is a 15 digit unique number associated with every GSM and UMTS mobile phone. The IMEI is stored in the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR).

IMEI Classifications
The EIR stores three IMEI classifications:
1) White Valid GSM Mobile Stations
2) Grey GSM Mobile Stations to be tracked
3) Black Barred Mobile Stations.
Greylisting will allow the phone to be used, but it can be tracked to see who has it (via the SIM info).
Blacklisting bars the phone from being used on any network where there is an EIR match.
Write it down and if your phone is stolen, then you can report this to the police and they can stop it being resold

The EIR is a unique computer located in the GSM Association headquarters in Dublin, Ireland. It is a global central database containing information on serial number (IMEI) ranges of millions of handsets that have been approved for use on GSM networks.
Operators who deploy a Local Equipment Identity Register (LEIR) in their network use it to keep their own list of blocked lost or stolen phones. Each operator can use a secure Internet connection to share their latest lists of blacklisted handsets with other operators.Every night since 1996, the CEIR has taken all the Black Lists from different operators around the world and added them together into one big Black List. When an EIR connects to the CEIR the following day, it downloads the big Black List for its own use. By loading that big Black List onto the local EIR, all handsets reported as stolen on all other connected networks all over the world up to the previous day are now blocked on that network also.

How it works
When a phone is switched on, this unique IMEI number is transmitted and checked against a database of blacklisted or greylisted phones in the network's EIR (Equipment ID Register). This EIR determines whether the phone can log onto the network to make and receive calls.
Know your IMEI
To find out the serial number of your mobile phone, type in
* (Star)
# (Hash)
0 (zero)
6 (six)
# (Hash)
This code works on most phones. So what we need to do is type the code as said above and note down the IMEI in a secret place so that we can call the operator whenever it is lost or stolen asking them to add this number to the Black list.Doing so no one else can use this further, and if everyone keep practising it atleast to some extent stealing of phones will reduce.
