Sakshi Epaper

Finally Sakshi was out on Monday,24th march,2008.The paper is definitely looking world class.Font is cool, better utilisation of space, neat colour usage etc.,
After all Sakshi, is the power of money.Lets wait and see how Eenadu and Andhra Jyothy will amend themselves and improvise.
Have a look at the websites sakshi and Sakshi epaper
Features :
Price Rs 2/-
Epaper lets you download a page or full edition in PDF format for offline reading.

Note:
I observed my blog(s) visit statistics for the last 2 days, there is a whopping increase in the number of visits and most of them are pointing to sakshi pages.I can thus say people are showing a lot of interest on Sakshi paper. This is truly a bad sign to Eenadu, and it dominance. It has to struggle a lot and redesign itself to continue as the market leader.
I believe Eenadu/other papers will slash the price now.

తెలుగు పద్యము - మా నాన్న

Kota Purushotham, a native of Tirupathi came up with a book Telugu Padhyamoo - Maa Naanna. This book contains Padhyalu written by him and a collection of others.Kota Purushotham says,in his childhood days his father Kota Venkatiah Naidu used to tell many good things about the society,Telugu language etc., which will be of great interest to the children of that age.As he grew up his fathers words impacted him a lot in developing his love for the Telugu Language. Now he has compiled writings into a fine book called,Telugu Padhyamoo - Maa Naanna.
Along his own writings he has also included the writings of greats like Sankarambadi Sundarachari , Rayaprolu Subba Rao,Velugu Venkata Subba Rao,VemulaPalli Srikrishna etc., to make this a full fledged book.He wants this book to be read by each and every person to understand and taste the greatness and sweetness of this language. To inculcate the habbit of reading among the School going Children he came up with a generous move of distributing two copies of this book to each school. To get the free copies , the HeadMaster of the School has to write to the following address.

Address
Kota Purushotham

Strand BookStall

Last Friday when I was travelling to Chittoor , I read an interesting article about the Strand Book Stall. This Book Stall having shops in Mumbai and Bangalore has many unique qualities , and this prompted me in writing this article hoping ,it will be useful to some of us who havent heard about it ,like me.First and the most unique point about this book stall is that was the first bookstall in he world offering a minimum of 20% discount on all of its books. The interesting part of the article was about the founder of this book Stall Sri T.N.Shanbag,aged 81 now,and what prompted him in starting the book stall. In short,T.N.Shanbag was bornin Karnataka, lost his father at very early,His uncle took all their property,...Mumbai..,loves to read books, observed good books are Far fro the reach of ordinary people through some of the experiences in his life. This finally let him to start a small book Stall ,in a Theatre in Mumbai on 20th November ,1948.People used to come to this stall during the interval, his immense knowledge of books attracted the people and soon the stall started gaining popularity. He shifted the shop to a bigger place still keeping the name "Strand book Stall".He always believed that selling books is not just like any other commodity whch are sold just for the sake of profit. In his journey he gave books to many personalities like Nehru,JRD Tata,Homi Bhaba etc.,Now he is the oly book seller who recieved Padmasri from govt and even UNESCO recognised him as the person who encouraged
book reading in India.
other points as I found on its website
1. STRAND BOOK STALL was founded by Mr. T. N. Shanbhag on 20th November 1948.
2. We were the first in the world to give minimum 20% discount on all books. We do not offer "pulp stuff" as good books. But only outstanding books in each field.
3. Since then we have gone far and now we give 50% or more discount on the day of publication on many books. The latest example : The one and the only Stephen Hawking's "Universe In A Nutshell" published price Rs.1775.00 our price Rs.625.00 (Discount 65%). Likewise Nobel Prize winner V. S. Naipaul's latest book "Half A Life" published price Rs.1205.00 our price Rs.275.00 (Discount 77%).
4. "Barnes and Noble" the largest chain of book stores in the world started giving 20% discount from 1976. Nearly 30 years after us. Moreover they are giving only 20% even now and no more. That too on hardbound books not paperbacks.
5. We have been reader friendly from day 1.

Searching Extraaa

Are you not a member of IEEE,then your not allowed to search the content in the IEEE library. This is applicable to many publications like Business today,TIME etc where the content over web is confined to subscribers....
Google and Yahoo have gone a step ahead in this regard by wooing publishers,Authors in making them searchable. This let us read many books, data which otherwise would be virtually difficult to go through them.
Google service is Goolge Print.and Yahoo service is Search Subcriptions.

Google Print
Google tied up with Publishers,Authors,Libraries etc and scanned tons and tons of books, pages etc for over one and half years before making it available for public search.
But with raising concerns from Authors, publishers for violation of copyright it made only some pages open to search. The best part of it is,If you own/Wrote a book , you can upload it to Goolge Print publisher and earn income from it.
Use it for : Browsing historic pages related to World Wars,Great people like Archimedes,Hitler,Shakespear etc.,
Ex:
1)Shakespear
2)Tsunami
3)Larry Ellison
4)Then Chittoor part of Madras Presidency

Yahoo Search Subcriptions
It lets us search pages from range of publications like IEEE,New England Journal of Medicine, TheStreet.com,Wall Street Journal etc., which otherwise require subscribing to them.
