He is the man who
- Designed a New System of Automatic Waste Weir Flood Gate.
- Introduced the Block System of Irrigation.
- Prepared a Scheme for Flood Protection work and underground drainage for Hyderabad City.
- Started State Bank of Mysore
- Established Mysore University and the State Engineering College in Bangalore.
- Designed and constructed Krishnarajasagar Reservoir.
- Mahanadi flood control work in Orissa
- Establishment of All India Manufactures’s Organisation, and was President from 1941-1954
- Selected the proper site for a new Railway bridge to river Ganga in Bihar.
- Director in the Tata Iron & Steel Co. Ltd., Bombay from 1927-55.
- Travelled extensively in Europe, Canada, UK and visited U.S.A. five times and Japan twice with a view to gain knowledge and experience for developing our country.

To commemorate the birthday of Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya, the Council of the Institution decided to observe September 15 as the Engineers' Day every year. This is celebrated throughout the country through all the Centres of the Institution with learned discourses on a theme specified by the Council every year.
